I wanted to improve my skills designing and modeling characters, at this point all I’ve made was assets and environment, so I wanted to improve my character-making skills.
First I searched for references and made a moodboard. Then, when I knew how I wanted the character to look like, I’ve made a quick concept with Photoshop.
This time I had to model the character, it wasn’t hard surface, it was organic, so I used Mudbox to make the high-poly model. It was my first time using this software, but I managed to learn very quick how to use that workflow.
When the high-poly was ready, I’ve made some renders of the front and back view of the character and a concept for the clothing. Then I’ve made them on 3Ds Max.
At the moment I had all the high-poly pieces of the model done, I started making the retopology of the model. It was my first time, so it was tricky to make all the loop done and end with a good topology for the low-poly model.
Later I exported the entire character to Substance Painter, baked the model and painted it. Then it was time to make the renders.
